I’m Dr. Courtney Whitehead, a licensed psychologist at New Normal Psychology. I help adults who feel chronically overwhelmed, anxious, or burned out develop practical skills to manage stress, set boundaries, and navigate life with greater confidence and independence.
Who I Commonly Work With
I often help adults who feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck, especially people who are used to being the responsible one, meeting others’ expectations, and solving problems for everyone else. Therapy can help you understand your patterns, set clearer boundaries, reconnect with what you want, and respond to anxiety and difficult emotions with greater confidence.
Services I Offer
Therapy
I provide therapy for adults experiencing anxiety, low mood, overwhelm, overthinking, stress-related sleep difficulties, relational challenges, and dissatisfaction with their lives.
Modalities I use include CBT, somatic therapy techniques, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT / Tapping), solution-focused approaches, and when clinically appropriate, Written Exposure Therapy for PTSD.
I draw from CBT to help clients understand and interrupt anxious thought patterns, somatic techniques to increase awareness of how stress and emotions show up in the body, EFT techniques to reduce distress, and solution-focused approaches to explore relational patterns, needs, and possible next steps.
Therapy is for mental-health concerns such as anxiety, depression, overwhelm, relational difficulties, and related symptoms.
If you’re primarily struggling with anxiety, overthinking, or feeling overwhelmed: Anxiety Therapy
I also work with young adults who are navigating the transition into adulthood, including unmet expectations, difficulty maintaining friendships, uncertainty about career or personal goals, and feeling stuck about what comes next.
If becoming an adult feels harder than expected or you feel stuck about what comes next: Young Adult Therapy
Life Coaching
Life coaching is for clients who are primarily seeking structured support with goals, planning, accountability, decision-making, or follow-through rather than treatment for a mental-health condition. If you choose coaching with me, I do not also provide therapy to you.
If you want a directive approach to move toward your goals or get started on tasks: Life Coaching
When This Work Is a Good Fit
This work is often a good fit for people who:
- overthink or replay conversations after they happen
- have difficulty identifying what they actually want or need
- frequently seek reassurance
- feel responsible for keeping things running smoothly for others
- become overwhelmed or disconnected from themselves when stress builds
- want to better understand the patterns behind their thoughts, emotions, and behavior
My approach is empathic, relational, practical, and active. The goal is to help you use the control you have rather than feeling like decisions are dictated by anxiety.
When This May Not Be the Best Fit
This may not be the best fit if you are looking for therapy focused on children or teens, a therapy style that is largely conversational without active reflection and skill-building, or intensive treatment for complex trauma. When clinically appropriate, I may use trauma-informed approaches such as Written Exposure Therapy for PTSD as part of a broader treatment plan until you are connected with a trauma specialist. My practice focuses on adults seeking support with anxiety, overwhelm, relational patterns, boundaries, and related concerns.
